The problem with joining flickr

February 28, 2010

great, I finally came around and joined flickr, one of the best websites to share your photos among friends or like-minded people in the various groups. It’s actually rather cool that there is a John Muir Trail photo group. For anyone who has hiked that, or parts of it, these photos will help bring back all the knee grinding memories of the trail.

The problem with flickr is that it’s just so great. Who would have thought that Yahoo would still produce something so cool? Oh right, they didn’t develop it, they bought it. Anyway, the last thing I need is something else to consume my time. So that’s it. If you care to waste away with me, I’m here

Missing Jennifer Knapp – again! (update: Christians bashing homosexuals?)

February 26, 2010

Ok, I’m a huge fan of Jennifer Knapp and when she fell of the face of the earth for 8 years it was awful. She apparently had an issue with her old record label or personal breakdown of some kind — there were rumors about everything. So she’s now back with a few more tattoos and new music and everything is wonderful again. Except we won’t be around when she performs in San Francisco on April 25th. If you have the chance, check her music out. She has an incredible gift for revealing all those soulful thoughts and emotions that connect on a deep level.

____

Ok since I posted this little blog entry quite a few people have landed here, no doubt in part because of the controversy of her “coming out”. What are people thinking out there? Is she less of a Christian because of her homosexuality? Is she all together not a Christian anymore? I don’t know myself. I do know that Jesus seemed to spend a lot of time loving the outcasts of society. One sector of our world that is shunned, degraded and discriminated against is the community of homosexuals. Would a modern day Jesus walk around with stones to throw at them? I think he’d be hanging out with the very people who are the subject of a lot of Christian hatred.

Zac and Stephanie’s amazing wedding at Dublin Ranch

February 11, 2010

Zac and Stephanie rocked it — total joy emanated from these two on a classy, fun afternoon at Dublin Ranch. They scheduled things perfect on the photography side of things — most of the formal pictures were done before the wedding, allowing them to spend more time with their guests at the reception. Thanks guys for a great day!

Getting the most out of your wedding photographer

February 6, 2010

1. Communicate the must have shots to your photographer. If you see something on the web or in a magazine that you must have, be sure to forward that in advance (it might be difficult to verbally describe on the wedding day).

2. Delegate. Choose a friend or relative that knows a good number of folks who will join the formal pictures. Get this person a shot list and have them help corral everyone for each picture. This speeds up picture taking and allows your photographer to focus on composing and taking great portraits. Also consider not to getting carried away with your shotlist. Assuming your photographer is slanted toward a journalistic approach, he/she will likely can get far more interesting candids of all the bubbly happiness following the ceremony.

3. Plan carefully about how much time you allot to taking pictures. Even the best photographer needs at least 10 minutes to do a good set of portraits. Consider doing bride/ bridesmaid, groom/ groomsman photos before the ceremony, which will reduce time needed for post-ceremony photos. Even better is to do all the portraits ahead of the ceremony. This option really has tremendous upside (if one can set aside the superstitions) 1) you get to have a private moment before all the non-stop craziness starts, which should help alleviate some anxiety and stress you might be feeling. 2) Your photographer can capture that amazing moment when you first see each other– these shots are FULL of wonderful emotion and make GREAT photos. 3) Getting these out of the way ahead of time allows you to enjoy more of the reception. I have more schedule suggestions that will get posted soon.
