Nathan’s 365 project (ok, daddy’s actually)

July 2, 2010

There’s a crazy challenge some photographers inflict upon themselves called “365″. It’s a picture a day of anything for one year and can be of any subject or theme. It can be random life, like my friend Paul’s 365, or it can be quite specific and collaborative like this one on clouds.  I’ve long resisted doing this simply because it takes time and lugging out the camera gear every day seems like such a chore.  But a funny thing happened to me last week that has given me great motivation to do a 365. We had a baby.

I won’t fill up the blog here with a picture a day, but rather upload a collage every week or so. I hope to put up tips and behind the scenes info for folks to try out with their cameras at home. I’ll occasionally put away my expensive gear and demonstrate how to take pro photos with a $100 point and shoot. Check back and leave a comment on what you think!

Free portraits for low-income families

April 9, 2010

I was really touched to hear there was an effort last year to provide free portraits for low-income families. Being overseas, I couldn’t participate and now that we’re moving back to S.F. Bay Area next month, I thought I’d search online to see if anything was going on. Well I couldn’t find anything on google. Perhaps someone searching will find this blog and leave a comment. I’m so very willing to help out and if there’s already an organized effort, I’d like to join. If not, then perhaps we’ll have to start our own! Either way, leave a comment if you can help out and share this blog entry on facebook by dragging the image below (hover it and you’ll see). FB seems to magical powers to connect people for these sorts of efforts.

The problem with joining flickr

February 28, 2010

great, I finally came around and joined flickr, one of the best websites to share your photos among friends or like-minded people in the various groups. It’s actually rather cool that there is a John Muir Trail photo group. For anyone who has hiked that, or parts of it, these photos will help bring back all the knee grinding memories of the trail.

The problem with flickr is that it’s just so great. Who would have thought that Yahoo would still produce something so cool? Oh right, they didn’t develop it, they bought it. Anyway, the last thing I need is something else to consume my time. So that’s it. If you care to waste away with me, I’m here

Missing Jennifer Knapp – again! (update: Christians bashing homosexuals?)

February 26, 2010

Ok, I’m a huge fan of Jennifer Knapp and when she fell of the face of the earth for 8 years it was awful. She apparently had an issue with her old record label or personal breakdown of some kind — there were rumors about everything. So she’s now back with a few more tattoos and new music and everything is wonderful again. Except we won’t be around when she performs in San Francisco on April 25th. If you have the chance, check her music out. She has an incredible gift for revealing all those soulful thoughts and emotions that connect on a deep level.

____

Ok since I posted this little blog entry quite a few people have landed here, no doubt in part because of the controversy of her “coming out”. What are people thinking out there? Is she less of a Christian because of her homosexuality? Is she all together not a Christian anymore? I don’t know myself. I do know that Jesus seemed to spend a lot of time loving the outcasts of society. One sector of our world that is shunned, degraded and discriminated against is the community of homosexuals. Would a modern day Jesus walk around with stones to throw at them? I think he’d be hanging out with the very people who are the subject of a lot of Christian hatred.
